Teachers' Word 老師的話
The Night Call Miss Catherine
A year ago when Celia asked me to pray about teaching in Samuel School, I had just decided to retire myself from a blessed but exhausting IT career. The season has changed and I sensed the Lord has something else in store for me. But I wasn’t sure about being a full-time teacher. I had taught children in a heritage school for years while I was in Canada, but it was more an extracurricular commitment than a calling. So I waited for the Lord’s lead.
One night I woke up from a nightmare and could not get back to sleep. Stressed by my circumstance at the time, I desperately reached for my Bible and read Psalm 119 aloud to myself. Every word spoke deep to my distressful soul,
“…How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.…I gave an account of my ways and you answered me; teach me your decrees. Cause me to understand the way of your precepts that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds. My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word...”
The Lord has clearly laid down all His precepts in the Bible for us to live an abundant life; had we followed and obeyed diligently, we wouldn’t stray far away. I was reminded of the power of God’s word, and once again strengthened by His word. Then a gentle voice within me asked, “Wouldn’t it be marvelous to show little children what is written here?” It dawned on me what a privilege it would be to teach God’s word to young children. So this is it! Just as God called Samuel while he was sleeping, the Lord’s calling came to me in the middle of the night, wow!
During the past three months since the school started, the Lord has been teaching us the power of His word. What joy it has been to witness His word being sown into the little hearts! I pray they too be touched and strengthened everyday by the Word throughout their lives.
